A Reflection of a Year of AP Bio!

AP Bio this year has been one of the most engaging, yet challenging classes that I have ever been apart of. I will admit, creating websites at first sounded like my worst nightmare because I really do not get along well with technology. But, the website allowed me to express what I was learning in a really fun and personal way. I would have never imagined making a website because to me, creating a website always sounded really boring. Yet, from this experience I have improved my tech skills tremendously and I was able to reflect on things I learned in class, and it was really cool knowing that other people could be learning from the things I posted on my site. I have to say my favorite post on my website has to be my LiMPETs Citizen science vlog. I have always found the ocean fascinating so being able to get hands on with creatures in tide pools was a dream come true for me! I also learned SO MUCH information about the ocean, invertebrates, and coastal habitats that I loved being able to share in my vlog. Another reason why I am particularly found of this post is because it was first video blog (vlog) I had ever made and found the experience really enjoyable. Besides just learning from Mrs. Girard, I learned a lot from my classmates. I was blessed to be apart of a class of girls who were as fascinated with biology as I was. I was able to relay on them when I needed help, ask questions when I didn’t get a problem, and text them when I forgot my homework in my locker. I could not have asked for a better group of young women to work with. They taught me that it is okay to ask for help from others and to communicate how you are feeling. There was times when I felt so confused by cellular respiration or water potential, and there was a smiling face ready to help me right when I asked. I will continue to use the skills that I have learned this year in AP Bio for the next chapter of my journey through high school science, with AP Chem, and beyond. Thank you ladies and Mrs. Girard for a wonderful year!

  2. Lindsay, looks like you had an amazing year of learning! Thank you for taking the time to reflect and share. I would have never known that this is your first website. Reading your entries is almost like listening to an audio blog in a way. I can hear your enthusiasm and your excitement come through in your writing and its almost as though you had spoken these words. The variety of information provided on your site makes me want to click on all the posts! The added section of In Class Activities with all the pictures adds a good touch to get people more interested. The blogs and investigations cover labs and class content, current event topics, political and social commentary, connections and so much more! I love the awareness this will bring to these topics as well as help increase understanding and connects to applications of biology! Continue to check blogs for grammar and spelling especially when using capitalization. Thank you for sharing your AP biology adventures and I hope you add your AP Chemistry adventures here too! What a great portfolio that will be.

I know that my grammar and spelling are an issue that I need to work on and it is something that I am hoping that I will further improve on in the future.

  4. Lindsay I have seen you grow so much during this year. Your blog has grown over time and so has your knowledge. How will you continue your research and how will you communicate your results? When you do research what are the areas you are most interested in? How do you think you can make a impact to make the world a better place?

    1. Thank you so much Lisa for being an amazing formal commentator this year! I plan on continuing to use some of the tools that I have learned in class for future classes like Emaze and Powtoon which will allow me to continue to share my discovers with the world in a fun way! When I research thing subject area that I am intrigued by is probably biotech. I have absolutely loved doing pGLO and wolbachia using PCR and electrophoresis. Yet, I also love dissection and body systems. I do not know yet how I will impact the world, but I do know that I want to make people’s lives better and I hope that I will be able to do that by using tools that I have learned in this class!

What I enjoy most about Team AP Bio’s digital portfolios is that each one is unique. You have really developed your voice and it shines through in each post. I am so thankful that I will get to see you in the halls and on stage next year. Happy summer, senior!
